if you wait for the day your thinking bends to straight, you'll be waiting for a long, long time
I love my iPod. There are times when I do not, but I can't resist it. It may be on the surface only a machine, but my mini-Tom has got a SOUL, I swear. Tonight while making garlic bread for dinner and feeling a little sorry for myself, the song "Silent All These Years" by Tori Amos came up on random shuffle. Well, of course, being the song from my angtsy youth, mood got just a little bit darker. In a way that feels like an old, worn blanket on a chilly evening. Familiar and safe.
Mini-Tom was not about to let me continue along that path. Occasionally he does, for a little bit. When I've tried to get over my Gomez obsession, for example, suddenly he feels the need to put Gomez on every song until I can't take it anymore and I have to get sucked back in. Sometimes I'll have a few sad songs together and then he'll pop up with a string of peppy dance songs. It may be a computer program, but it often picks the song I really need to hear at the right time.
The very next song was this lovely gem from David Ford: Cheer Up You Miserable Fuck. I'm taking it as a sign.
